eLearning Custom Content Development: This includes a variety of custom content
development programs including induction, product / process, soft-skills, quality
management etc. Depending on the organisation’s requirements. eLearning content can
be generated in various formats like HTML, PPT, flash etc., and training is also delivered
via our proprietary Video Based Training (VBT™)/Audio Based Training (ABT™) (Patent
pending USPTO 20080206730, USA). Furthermore, question banks can also be generated
to test employees at regular intervals to assess the effectiveness of training
Repurposing of Legacy Content
Content that is available in legacy formats like print, CD-ROM, documents etc get
converted into eLearning standard (SCORM, AICC, IMS, LRN etc.) compliant content
that is tagged and archived for further training application use
Paper / Word Formats to Online (e-Books)
An e-book (short for electronic book) is the digital media equivalent of a conventional
printed book, often protected with digital rights management system. Digital Rights
Management (DRM) is a systematic approach to copyright protection for digital media.
The purpose of DRM is to prevent unauthorized redistribution of digital media and
restrict the ways consumers can copy content they’ve purchased. DRM products were
developed in response to the rapid increase in online piracy of commercially marketed
material, which proliferated through the widespread use of peer-to-peer file exchange
programs. E-books are usually read on personal computers or smart phones, or on
dedicated hardware devices known as e-book readers (e.g. Kindle from Amazon
and PRS-505 Reader from Sony etc). Many mobile phones can also be used to read
e-books. E-books have many features that traditional paper books may be missing:
- You can search through the text for a specific word or phrase
- You can carry e-Books with you on your PDA or smartphone device
- You can shrink or enlarge the text size
- You can incorporate rich-media elements like flash, video, voice, hotspots and
hyperlinks etc.
- You can add digital bookmarks
- You get instantaneous delivery
- You help the environment by not using paper or requiring packaging
Content Porting:
You may have existing legacy content in CD format or in your existing
LMS. Since content has to comply with the current SCORM standards, the content may
have to be changed (e.g. in case of CD) or may have to be repackaged into existing
SCORM standards so that it can be integrated into your new or upgraded LMS, SCORM
Coding & Compliance (For details see Standards Compliance).
- Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a collection of standards
and specifications for web-based eLearning. It defines communications between
client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly
a function of a Learning Management System). SCORM also defines how content
may be packaged into a transferable ZIP file. SCORM is a specification of the
Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative, which was an initiative of the Office
of the United States Secretary of Defence. SCORM 2004 introduced a complex idea
called sequencing, which is a set of rules that specifies the order in which a learner
may experience content objects. In simple terms, they constrain a learner to a fixed
set of paths through the training material, permit the learner to “bookmark” his/her
progress when taking breaks and assure the acceptability of test scores achieved by
the learner. The standard uses Extensible Mark-up Language (XML), and it is based
on the results of work done by AICC, IMS Global and IEEE. (For Details see section
on e-learning Content Standards Compliance) GOLS has in-depth expertise in all
versions of SCORM
Simulations: Simulation is the digital reproduction of a product or process or machine
for the purpose of training or demo. Everyone is aware about aircraft simulation. These
days even surgery training is provided through simulation. Simulation helps training in the
following ways:
- Show me how it is done
- Let me do on my own
- Allow me to make mistakes because we learn from mistakes
Game Based Learning (GBL)
- GBL is a branch of serious games that deals with applications that have defined
learning outcomes. Generally, they are designed in order to balance the subject matter
with the game play and test the ability of the player to retain and apply said subject
matter to the real world. Games often have a fantasy element that engages players
in a learning activity through narrative or storylines. Educational video games can be
motivating to learners and allow them to develop consequential awareness. Learners
who participate in educational video games can offer deeper, more meaningful
insights in all application areas. The success of game-based learning strategies owes
to active participation and interaction of learners, as it imparts experiential learning.
